NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY FIELDHOUSE AND ATHLETICS CENTER

The Ryan Fieldhouse and Walter Athletics Center is a state-of-the-art athletics and wellness complex that serves more than 500 student-athletes at Northwestern University. Located along the shores of Lake Michigan, the multi-building facility consolidates training, performance, academic, and support services into a centralized campus destination designed to enhance both the student-athlete experience and the university's recruiting efforts.

As part of the Experience Design team, I contributed to the development of the environmental graphics and branded environments that celebrate Northwestern's tradition of excellence in both athletics and academics. By integrating graphics early in the design process, the visual narrative became an integral component of the architecture, reinforcing the university's culture, values, and aspirations throughout the facility.

The design incorporates large-scale athlete imagery, custom graphic patterns, dimensional architectural elements, bespoke display features, and illuminated brand moments that create a dynamic sense of movement and energy. Strategic use of Northwestern's signature purple, combined with carefully curated storytelling elements, transforms circulation spaces and gathering areas into immersive experiences that honor the university's legacy while inspiring future generations of student-athletes.

Through the seamless integration of architecture, interiors, and environmental graphics, the project establishes a powerful identity for the facility and creates a lasting sense of pride, purpose, and belonging for the Northwestern community.
